ABOUT hcws

The High Country Watermedia Society is composed of all skill levels of artists and art enthusiasts hailing from the northwest mountains of North Carolina including the adjacent towns of Virginia and Tennessee. The group’s purpose is to promote watermedia through education, hands-on experience, member exhibitions and art endowments.

HCWS members create their works of art using water-based materials, as distinguished from oil or other media, by being diluted with water when used. Watermedia includes watercolor paint, gouache, casein, egg tempera, acrylic, watercolor crayon, watercolor pastel, watercolor pencil, water soluble ink, water soluble oil paints, and water soluble graphite.
